Guwahati, 27th April: The East Tripura parliamentary constituency concluded its polling activities with a robust voter turnout of 80.32% recorded till 8 pm on Friday night. Spanning across 1,664 polling stations, the elections witnessed significant voter participation, reflecting the democratic spirit of the region.
Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal highlighted the peaceful conduct of the polls, expressing gratitude to the voters who exercised their franchise. Despite challenges, including calls for a boycott in two polling stations due to local grievances, election officials worked diligently to address concerns and ensure the smooth progress of the electoral process.
Agarwal mentioned that the scrutiny of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) is currently underway, with the expectation of a slight increase in the final turnout once the process is completed.
Addressing specific polling stations where boycotts occurred, Agarwal emphasized the need to respect the decisions of the local community while acknowledging the efforts made to engage and persuade voters to participate in the democratic process.
Highlighting the meticulous arrangements put in place to facilitate voting, returning officer Saju Vaheed assured seamless connectivity in shadow areas through the utilization of wireless communication channels, including Ham Radio and wireless communications.
Efforts to ensure the accessibility of polling stations and resolve any issues related to EVMs were underscored, with Vaheed confirming the prompt resolution of concerns to uphold the integrity and efficiency of the electoral process.
