Former Dy Speaker of Mizo Assembly Lalrinawma to be Sworn-in as Minister

Guwahati: Former deputy speaker of Mizoram assembly Lalrinawma will take the oath of office as a minister on Tuesday. This was informed by an official.

Mizoram governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will administer the oath during a swearing-in event that will take place at Raj Bhavan.

Lalrinawma left her position as deputy speaker of the assembly on Thursday.

The portfolios of K Beichhua, who left his position on December 13, are reportedly going to be given to the former deputy speaker.

The former minister Beichhua, who held excise and narcotics, veterinary, social welfare and sericulture departments, before tendering his resignation had said that he was told to resign by Chief Minister Zoramthanga as he wanted to reshuffle the cabinet and portfolios.

Beichhua’s resignation is thought to have been primarily prompted by the political impasse in the Siaha Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), where he was elected.

The Mizo National Front (MNF)-Congress government in MADC was forced from office when at least three Mizo National Front (MNF) district council members backed the opposition BJP last month.

The new MADC government has not yet received the governor of Mizoram’s approval.
