Former Maha Home Minister Anil Deshmukh Released From Jail

Guwahati: Former Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh was released from Mumbai’s Arthur Road prison on Wednesday.

He was released after the necessary paperwork was completed and sureties were provided.

His advocate Aniket Nikam stated that the CBI had submitted a new appeal for an extension of the stay on the judgement giving him bail yesterday.

“Yesterday one more application was moved on behalf of CBI seeking further extension of the stay order. The application was rejected by the High Court,” Nikam said.

Deshmukh is required to comply with the investigation and cannot leave Mumbai’s jurisdiction without first receiving permission from the trial court, according to the terms set down by the court.

Anil Deshmukh was granted conditional bail by the Bombay High Court on December 12 in exchange for a Rs 1 lakh bond, but the CBI afterwards requested a stay order so that they may appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, which the Bombay HC approved. A 10-day stay was granted, and it was then extended until December 27. On Tuesday, the Bombay High Court dismissed the request for a further extension of days.

The NCP leader was the target of a corruption investigation by the CBI.
