Four Destinations of Sikkim bans entry of tourists
While the State Government announced its decision to end all restrictions on entry into Sikkim starting 10 Oct, rural bodies at several places in the state have begun announcing their own counter-decisions to restrict entry of tourists. Lachung in North Sikkim was the first to make such an announcement on 25 Sept banning tourists till 30 Nov.
Today, Ribdi-Bhareng GPU under Daramdin constituency, West Sikkim banned entry of tourists till 30 Nov 2020. A notice issued on 29 Sept by the Panchayat President, Phur Lhamu Sherpa, informs that the panchayat along with villagers and homestay stakeholders have decided to restrict entry of tourists into Hilley, Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary and Pattharey from 01 Oct till 30 Nov 2020.
On 28 Sept, Assam Lingzey GPU in East Sikkim issued a notice declaring restrictions on entry of international, national, domestic and local tourists till 31 Dec 2020. Prior to that on 27 Sept, Yuksam in West Sikkim had announced its decision to ban entry of tourists till 30 Nov 2020.
