The Government of India likely to award Colonel Santosh Babu with the second-highest wartime gallantry medal Mahavir Chakra on the Republic Day this year. Colonel Santosh Babu lost his life in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley last year.
According National Media Government sources have said that Col Babu is likely to be awarded the Mahavir Chakra posthumously on this Republic Day. The Galwan valley clash happened on June 15, 2020 when Indian troops led by Colonel Babu took on the Chinese troops near the patrolling point 14 area and in the fight India lost 20 troops while the Chinese also suffered significant casualties.
