Gauhati HC Dismisses Complaint Against Assam CM Sarma
Guwahati: The Election Commission filed a suit against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma which was dismissed by the Gauhati High Court on Saturday.
A complaint was filed against Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly breaking the model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court summoned Assam’s chief minister in connection with the matter. Sharma was also punished by the CJM court for failing to appear in court.
The Advocate General had appealed the judgement to the Gauhati High Court.
The Election Commission had previously filed a case against Sarma based on an accusation by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) that he had done an interview to a state-run satellite news channel after the MCC had been imposed.
