Gauhati HC Releases Three Accused in GMC Sludge Extraction Scam

Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) were granted bail by the Gauhati High Court to three defendants in the sludge extraction scam on Wednesday .

The three defendents who were granted bail has been identified as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Babul Sarma, Executive Engineer Chittaranjan Dutta and Ellen Begum.

The court granted bail in the last month to the GMC accountant Abhimanyu Medhi.

He was the first suspect in the scam.

It should be noted that the CM Vigilance Cell in Assam had already arrested nine suspects for their suspected participation in the GMC fraud in Guwahati which involved 20 crores of rupees.

The GMC OSD Babulal Sharma, the cleanliness officer Aafis Ahmed, the contractor Mithu Agarwal and the executive engineers Shankar Medhi, Ramakant Saikia, Elleen Begum, Chittaranjan Dutta and Hiranya Barman were among those who were arrested.

In connection with the incident, they also arrested Dinesh Jaiswal who is the director of Dinsan Global Venture.

Officers carried out an operation during which the corrupt officials were held after getting information about the illegal operations.

Since the incident came to light, the Gauhati High Court has also granted bail to a number of the accused in the matter.
