Gaurav Gogoi Slams BJP Over President’s Rule in Manipur, Calls It a ‘Collective Failure’
Guwahati: Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi has strongly criticized the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, calling it a symbol of the collective failure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP’s leadership in the Northeast.
Taking to his official X handle, the Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha remarked, “The imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur is symbolic of the collective failure of the Prime Minister and Home Minister and the party leadership in Northeast.” His statement comes after the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, following months of turmoil in the state.
Gogoi further expressed concerns over the lack of a concrete roadmap for sustainable peace and reconciliation in Manipur. He suggested that President’s Rule was imposed only because the BJP’s state unit was in complete disarray, rather than as a strategic step toward restoring normalcy. “People of Manipur and India deserve better,” he added.
Manipur has been in the grip of ethnic violence since May 2023, witnessing over 250 deaths and the displacement of thousands. The imposition of President’s Rule is seen as a significant political shift, raising questions over the BJP’s governance and crisis management in the conflict-ridden state.
