GMC Conducts Eviction Drive in Guwahati’s Beltola

Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) conducted an eviction drive in Beltola on Wednesday.

According to reports, the eviction effort at Bhetapara targeted street sellers.

The eviction effort was carried out to carry out their intention to rid the sidewalks and streets of street vendors by the end of this year’s February.

The GMC carried out an eviction effort against shops that had been set up unlawfully in the Ulubari region at the end of 2022.

The eviction drive was conducted close to the Prag Tower building underneath the Ulubari flyover.

The several mobile restaurants that had been set up below the flyover were unlawful, according to site officials. During the drive, several of these roadside stalls were removed.

Officials said that the GMC is undertaking daily eviction efforts to remove unlawfully erected booths and make the spaces they occupy available to the public.

Reports further indicated that claims of illegal tax collection and business harassment against the GMC have surfaced.
