GMC Polls: EC orders probe against CM Sarma for alleged code violation
Guwahati: A probe has been ordered against the state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma by the Assam start Election Commission for allegedly violating code of conduct during campaign for the upcoming Guwahati Municipal election.
The CM has been campaigning nonstop around the city in support of BJP-AGP candidates.
It may be mentioned that the Commission has taken note of a complaint filed by the Lurinjyoti Gogoi-led Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), which accused the chief minister of breaking the model code of conduct by introducing numerous programmes during the campaign.
According to reports, during the election campaign, Sarma promised Rs 10 crore in aid to each ward and an additional 1,000 beneficiaries under the Arunodoi plan if his party was elected.
It is to be noted that the GMC election has been scheduled on April 22 and the counting of votes will take place on April 24.
