GMCH Doctor Hangs Self at Residence in Guwahati’s Hatigaon
Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a woman doctor allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Hatigaon of Guwahati on Sunday morning.
The deceased doctor has been identified as Dr. Ivy Sharma, who was the assistant professor of the department of pathology at GMCH.
Sharma was found dead at her home in Basisthapur Lane No. 3 of Hatigaon. Her hanged body was found in her daughter’s room.
Reportedly, Dr. Sharma’s husband Dr. Debojit Choudhury was present at home when the incident occurred. He was in another room of the home. He looked for his wife and found her confined in their daughter’s room. After continuous efforts, he broke open the door of the room and recovered her body hanging from the fan.
After that, she was taken to the GMCH, where the medical staff pronounced her dead.
The deceased person’s body has been sent for a post-mortem.
However, the reason due to which she took the unfortunate step has not been ascertained as of now.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case and an investigation has been launched in regard to the incident.
According to police reports, Dr. Sharma had been receiving therapy for his condition and has long-standing mental health concerns.
Dr. Ivy Sharma’s husband Dr. Debojit Choudhury is the superintendent of State Cancer Institute, GMC.
Speaking on the tragic incident, Dr. Debojit Choudhury said, “At about 6:30 am, I saw that my wife was not in her bed. I searched the entire house and when I tried to open our daughter’s room, I realized that the room was locked from inside. When I broke open the door, I found her hanging to the fan in the room.”
“We married in the year 1998. We were leading a very peaceful life and no conflicts existed between us. Our only daughter is cuurently pursuing her studies in New Delhi,” Choudhury further said.
