Governor of Manipur Highlights Progress and Challenges in Legislative Assembly Address

Northeast Desk, 28th February: In the 5th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, Governor Anusuiya Uikey presented her address, emphasizing the progress and development achieved in the past year amid challenges faced by the state.

Commencing with an overview of law and order and justice delivery, Governor Anusuiya acknowledged the government’s efforts to address complex issues arising from the violence that erupted on May 3 last year. She expressed condolences for the 219 lives lost during the violence and assured the bereaved families of the government’s support, including the disbursal of Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to the affected families.

To bolster law and order, Governor Anusuiya highlighted the deployment of central armed police forces and army units, totaling 198 companies and 140 columns, respectively. She noted the detention of 1,87,143 individuals under preventive measures and the registration of approximately 10,000 FIRs. Moreover, cases have been transferred to CBI and NIA for independent investigation, underscoring the government’s commitment to transparency and justice.

Addressing the protection of religious sites and displaced persons’ property, coordinated security coverage has been implemented to safeguard vulnerable locations. Efforts are underway to resettle displaced individuals, with a focus on their welfare and well-being.

Governor Anusuiya also underscored the economic impact of the ongoing crisis, highlighting a potential loss of fiscal resources amounting to Rs 800 crore for the current fiscal year. Despite these challenges, the government remains committed to advancing developmental projects across various sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and natural resource management.

In conclusion, Governor Anusuiya urged the people of Manipur to extend their support and cooperation to restore peace and harmony, enabling the state to progress towards prosperity.
