Guwahati: In a tragic incident, at least 12 labourers were killed and 20 injured after a wall of a salt packaging factory collapsed in Morbi district of Gujarat on Wednesday.
The incident took place at Sagar Salt factory situated inside the Halvad GIDC industrial area.
According to reports, the local government employed a JCB to remove bodies and rescue people trapped beneath the rubble.
District Collector said that the incident occurred when salt was being filled into sacks. The wall suddenly collapsed, burying 20 to 30 labourers. There have been 12 verified deaths among them.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled for the deaths of labourers and declared that the PMNRF would compensate the families with Rs 2 lakh each.
“The tragedy in Morbi caused by a wall collapse is heart-rending. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Local authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected,” Modi said in a tweet.
