Guwahati: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth worker was killed in a road accident in Satgaon area of Guwahati Saturday.
According to witnesses, the accident occurred when a speeding dumper failed to detect an oncoming kid riding a two-wheeler and struck with him.
The deceased youth has been identified as Dhunumoni Barman.
He was the treasurer of the BJP Yuva Morcha’s Dispur unit, according to officials.
Meanwhile, the dumper’s driver is said to have fled the scene. Although he has not been identified, authorities have begun a search.
According to reports, two of the deceased’s buddies were right behind him when the tragedy occurred.
They rushed Barman to Mathgharia Gate Hospital but he died on the route due to his injuries.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed the condolence over the death of Barman. Taking to twitter, Sarma wrote, “I am saddened at the demise of Dhumani Barman, treasurer of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Dispur Mandal. Barman known as an energetic youth leader, made a significant contribution towards strengthening the party. His untimely demise is an irreparable loss. I pray for the good of Barman’s departed soul and extend my condolences to the bereaved family.”
