Guwahati: CID Raid Mutiple Locations In Connection With “Fake-Inspector”

Guwahati: Assam Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted raids around Guwahati on Wednesday in connection with the arrest of a man who pretended to be a crime branch official in order to extort money.

Today, a team of CID agents raided house number 47 in Manikanchan Path in Guwahati’s Hatigaon neighbourhood.

Upendra Pandey, the defendant in this case, reportedly resided at the leased space as a tenant three years ago. Officials said he pretended to be a CID officer to his tenant.

The CID raid lasted around three hours at the location, during which they discovered various pieces of evidence against the accused.

It may be noted that Pandey was apprehended by the CID in Guwahati yesterday after posing as a high-ranking police official and extorting money from other accused to resolve their cases.

According to police, Pandey, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, collected money in the name of top CID personnel.

The fraudster was apprehended by the CID based on the statements of some of the accused.
