Guwahati: A massive drive against the use of plastics has been launched by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) at the Saukuchi weekly market on Wednesday.
The campaign was launched to stop the usage of polymers smaller than 75 microns.
The efforts resulted in the seizure of several plastic bags. The GMC authorities have advised the business owners not to use plastics and that they could face fines for breaking the law.
Notably, the GMC has started separate campaigns to discourage the use of plastic in the city’s markets ever since the Center imposed a ban on single-use plastics.
GMC representatives participated in the drive along with the city police.
According to reports, Garchuk will host another campaign against the usage of plastics on Saturday.
