Guwahati: Former BJP Kisan Morcha leader has been arrested for allegedly running a fake medical college admission racket in Kolkata.
The leader has been identified as Bhaskar Mukherjee. He was arrested from the Golf Green police station in Guwahati.
According to reports, Mukherjee defrauded Rs 52.5 lakh from a medical student and her father.
Reports further said that the accused, who had even opened an office in Jadavpur two years ago, deceived a large number of people.
After being picked up from his Guwahati home, Mukherjee fell ill and had to be taken to the hospital, reports said.
He was transported to Kolkata on a transit remand on Sunday and appeared in court on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Assam BJP said Mukherjee had been suspended for a long time due to criminal actions.
