Guwahati: Geetanagar Police in Assam’s Guwahati arrested a notorious gang of thieves early on Tuesday morning, marking a significant victory for the police.
This comes amid a shocking increase in theft-related crimes across Guwahati in recent months, placing the local police department under scrutiny. The notorious gang of five has recently been caught by Geetanagar Police.
According to police, a squad was dispatched to the Bamunimaidam locality of Guwahati based on specific information. They claimed that despite the fact that the gang members were dispersed around Bamunimaidam’s Bhaskarnagar and Hafiznagar, they were all caught during the operation.
Officials mentioned that the feared thieves’ names were recorded in a number of theft cases across Guwahati’s police stations.
A subsequent operation also helped the police locate the gang’s leader, who had eluded capture in the initial raid, adding to their success. Police were able to track down the plot’s mastermind Munindra Das and arrest him using the testimony of the others who had been captured.
The gang members have all been transported to Geetanagar Police Station, where they are being held, following their arrest. The police stated that they will be brought before the court and that additional legal action would be taken as a result.
Officials stated that throughout the operation, the police squad was able to retrieve numerous stolen water pumps, batteries, and other items.
Those arrested in connection with the case were identified by the officials as Sirajul Haque, Dahiruddin, Rupson and Jagu Mandal.
The complainant was also contacted by the police to help identify the stolen goods. The owner, Ranjit Kumar Das arrived promptly at the police station.
The recovered stolen water pumps were positively identified as Das’s by Das, a contractor for the Guwahati water board. The authorities will be able to make a compelling case against the robbers thanks to his identification.
