Guwahati: Over Rs 65 Lakhs Seized From the Residence of Assam Tax Asst. Commissioner

Guwahati, 19 May: Assistant tax commissioner Minakshi Kakati Kalita of the Income Tax department fell into the trap of the anti-corruption branch while taking bribe money on Thursday. The Anti-Corruption Branch also seized four live bullets along with unlicensed pistols at her residence.

Even after the government-administration has been tough against corruption in the state, the mockery of a section of government officials continues. The corruption of these government officials becomes blind by the greed of money which has destroyed the trust and faith of the administrative of the general public in the administrative system. A section of the police administration is still carrying out the bribe.

Assistant tax commissioner Minakshi Kakati Kalita of the Income Tax department fell into the trap of the anti-corruption branch on Thursday while taking bribe money. Further, the probe also seized a huge amount of gold, bank passbooks and Rs 65,37,500 in cash along with unlicensed pistols during raids at her residence in Guwahati’s Rupnagar.

Taking to Twitter, the official handle of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wrote, “Ref: Arrest of Minakshi Kakati Kalita, Asstt. Commissioner of State Tax. During search, an amount of Rs. 65,37,500/-( sixty five lakhs thirty seven thousand five hundred) has been recovered from her house. Further search is underway.”

It should be mentioned that Minakshi Kakati Kalita was arrested earlier on suspicion of graft after being seen taking the bribe money she had asked from a complaint to reactivate GST online features.

Notably, this was the second trap of the day for the anti-corruption body. It tweeted, “2nd trap of the day. @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed Minakshi Kakati Kalita, Asst. Commissioner of State Tax in her office in KAR BHAWAN after she accepted demanded bribe from the complainant for reactivating GST online functions.”
