Guwahati Police Apprehends Two Individuals in Alleged Hawala Transaction Case; Over Rs 1 Cr Seized

Guwahati, 22nd November: The Guwahati Police apprehended two individuals and seized over Rs 1 crore during search operations in Athgaon area on Wednesday, according to reports.

The seized funds are suspected to be linked to alleged hawala transactions conducted by the arrested duo, according to sources.

As per official information, the Athgaon police, acting on specific information about suspicious individuals in a rented house belonging to Md Jamir Uddin, conducted a raid.

During the operation, the police detained Devkaran Sen (27) and Manoj Kumar (47), both hailing from Rajasthan.

A huge amount of cash, stored in two separate bags, was also recovered by the police.

When questioned about the money, the accused couldn’t provide a satisfactory response, leading to their arrest.

During the search, a huge sum of cash was recovered in the two bags.

Later, officials from the Income Tax department arrived at the scene and counted the recovered money, totaling Rs 1,69,70,000, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the Income Tax team is conducting further inquiries into the origins of the substantial cash, as reported.
