Guwahati Traffic Police Imposes Restrictions Ahead of Amit Shah’s Visit

Guwahati, 29th April: The Guwahati Traffic Police has implemented various restrictions on vehicular movement in anticipation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Guwahati on April 29.

To ensure public safety, especially for vulnerable road users such as children, students, women, senior citizens, and differently-abled persons, restrictions have been imposed. These measures also aim to facilitate the smooth passage of emergency vehicles.

1. Commercial goods carrying vehicles will be prohibited from plying on designated routes from 12 PM to 9 PM on April 29. The affected routes include NH-17, DG Road, MG Road, RKC Road, AK Dev Road, FA Road, AK Azad Road, and B.K Kakati Road.

2. Slow-moving vehicles and carts will face restrictions on the same routes during the same timeframe.

3. From 1 PM onwards on April 29, ASTC and Private City buses will be regulated on specified routes leading from LGBI Airport towards Machkhowa.

4. Vehicular traffic will not be allowed from Birubari Tiniali to Lalganesh Tiniali at AK Azad Road starting from 2 PM on the same day.

5. However, these restrictions will not impede the movement of emergency vehicles, including fire tenders, ambulances, vehicles carrying life-saving drugs, oxygen cylinders, and school buses.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to lead a grand roadshow in Guwahati on April 29, ahead of the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The event is anticipated to attract a significant number of supporters, underscoring its significance in voter mobilization efforts.

In light of Shah’s visit, Kamrup Metropolitan District Magistrate Sumit Chattavan has declared certain roads in the district as ‘no drone, no firecrackers, and no-fly zones.’ These restrictions will apply along the designated route from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to Jalukbari-Maligaon-Cycle Factory Tiniali-Lal Ganesh during the minister’s visit.
