Smuggled Gold Worth Rs 46 Lakh Seized in Manipur; One Suspect Detained

Northeast Desk, 28th April: In a significant operation, the Anti-Smuggling Unit of Imphal Customs Division confiscated smuggled gold valued at approximately Rs 46 lakh from Singjamei Supermarket in Manipur.

Acting on intelligence, officials intercepted a Maruti car around 8:00 pm in Imphal. Upon conducting a thorough search, authorities discovered three ingeniously hidden pieces of gold weighing a total of 627.5 grams beneath the vehicle’s handbrake, according to an official statement. Subsequently, one suspect has been detained in connection with the smuggling attempt.

In order to facilitate further arrests and potential seizures, the authorities have chosen to withhold the detained individual’s identity at this time. Preliminary interrogation suggests that the smuggled gold was transported from Myanmar through Manipur’s southern borders, the official elaborated.

The confiscated gold and the detained individual are being held under the provisions of the Customs Act of 1962. An extensive investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend any additional members involved in the smuggling operation.
