Guwahati: Woman Attacked by Alleged Stalker Despite Prior Complaints

Guwahati, 31st May: The Survey locality of Beltola in Guwahati was the scene of a tragic incident as Ankita Das Kashyap was brutally attacked by her alleged stalker, Amit Bhowmik. Despite Ankita’s repeated rejections and previous complaints to the police about Bhowmik’s persistent harassment, the attack still occurred, raising serious concerns about women’s safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement.

Ankita had filed complaints at the Dispur police station, detailing Bhowmik’s continuous stalking and threats. Despite these warnings, authorities failed to take adequate measures to protect her, ultimately leaving her vulnerable to the violent assault.

Puspalata Das, Ankita’s mother and a former professor at Agia College, expressed her deep frustration with the police’s inaction. She criticized the authorities for their lack of response, even after providing them with Bhowmik’s photograph for identification. She reiterated that Ankita had no romantic involvement with him, highlighting the severity of the oversight by law enforcement.

This incident underscores the urgent need for more effective measures to protect individuals from stalking and harassment and to ensure that complaints are taken seriously and acted upon promptly.
