Guwahati’s Perilous Patch: Kalapahar Road’s Double Trouble Demands Urgent Attention

Guwahati: In a worrying turn of events, a perilous stretch of Kalapahar Pandukan Road, specifically near Vmart, witnessed two separate accidents today within a mere few hours, sounding alarm bells among residents and daily commuters. The incidents have reignited pressing concerns about the abysmal state of the road, which locals say has become a veritable death trap.

Eyewitness accounts consistently point to the deplorable road conditions as the primary culprit behind these mishaps. The uneven surface and numerous neglected patches pose a significant threat to all road users, from motorists to pedestrians. Residents have voiced their exasperation, highlighting that this particular section has remained in a state of disrepair for weeks, with no visible signs of any official intervention or repair work.

“This road is an accident waiting to happen, and today it happened twice,” lamented a shopkeeper whose establishment is situated close to the accident site. “These incidents are just the latest in a string of close calls and actual crashes we’ve been seeing far too frequently.” The growing frustration among the populace is palpable, as they navigate this hazardous stretch daily, often with bated breath.

In light of these alarming occurrences, citizens are now making an urgent appeal to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) authorities. They are demanding immediate and decisive action to rectify the dangerous conditions. The consistent failure to maintain such a high-traffic arterial road not only jeopardises lives but also casts a shadow on the city’s overall infrastructure management and its commitment to public safety.

The plea is clear: the concerned departments must treat this matter with the utmost urgency. Expedited repairs and a thorough inspection are crucial to prevent further tragedies and ensure the safety of everyone who uses this vital road.
