Hima Das to miss Asian Games 2023 due to hamstring injury
Sports Desk, 15 June: Assam sprinter Hima Das won’t be able to compete in the upcoming Asian Games in China due to hamstring injury.
India’s athletics head coach Radhakrishnan Nair on Wednesday said former junior world champion Hima Das will miss the Asian Games to be held in China due to injury issues. The head coach added that Hima Das is currently undergoing a medical examination and planning for treatment.
Radhakrishnan Nair said apart from a hamstring injury, Hima Das has some back injury problems. Asian Games which were postponed since last year, will be held in Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8.
As per reports, Hima Das also known as “Dhing Express,” was unable to participate in the Tokyo Olympics because of the same injury. She had also missed the Federation Cup in Ranchi last month.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had hoped that Hima would recover from the injury and participate in the National Inter-State Championships starting from June 15 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The event will also be the final event for Indian track and field stars to secure qualification for the Asian Games.
