Himanta Biswa Sarma: BJP-NDPP government working towards bringing a permanent solution to the Naga political issue
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently been promoting Salhoutuonuo Kruse, the first female candidate to be supported by the BJP-NDPP in the 2018 Nagaland Assembly Elections. Sarma stressed the historical significance of this choice, saying that since Nagaland’s formation in 1960, no female candidate had run for state legislature.
Sarma reaffirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to Nagaland’s development during his campaign, and he said that the BJP-NDPP government would seek to find a long-term solution to the Naga political problem. He lauded the BJP-NDPP coalition’s stable government over the previous five years, led by Neiphiu Rio, and cited the absence of political unrest in the state at that time.
Once the election results are released, Sarma voiced his belief that Nagaland will make history because the BJP is committed to give women the authority to shape the future of the state, not just by talking about gender equality and women’s empowerment. He ended by making the commitment that major efforts will be made over the next five years to resolve the political impasse involving the Naga people and advance Nagaland’s development.
Sarma’s endorsement of the first-ever female BJP-NDPP candidate in the Nagaland Assembly Elections is indicative of the alliance’s commitment to advancing women in politics and long-term progress in the state.
