Historic Moinbari Satra in Assam Targeted by Thieves
Guwahati, 8th September: In a shocking incident, unidentified thieves targeted the historic Moinbari Satra in Assam’s Barpeta, making off with a significant amount of money and several valuable gold ornaments.
The incident occurred during the night when the satra premises were empty. The culprits gained entry by breaking a window and proceeded to ransack the sacred place. They stole approximately Rs 10,000, believed to be donations from devotees, and several precious gold ornaments of religious and historical significance, including a golden idol, a golden flute, a gold crown, and four golden necklaces.
The estimated value of the stolen items is around Rs 20 lakh. The thieves also took off with several ceremonial artifacts that had been in the satra’s possession for generations.
The Moinbari Satra is a revered institution in Barpeta, deeply cherished by the community. It is known for its cultural and religious heritage and has served as a center for spiritual and cultural activities for centuries.
Local police have been alerted, and an investigation into the theft is underway.
