Human Trafficking: 37 persons rescued in Assam
Guwahati: At least 37 people including 8 minors who were allegedly being trafficked to Maharashtra and Gujarat were rescued by the police from two different locations in Rangia and Baksa districts on Tuesday.
According to the police along with the rescued persons, three persons alleged to be human traffickers were also arrested by the police.
Among the rescued, 15 people including six minors were rescued by Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials while they were being taken to Mumbai on Tuesday via Rangia Railway Station. In connection with this, a woman belonging to Tezpur alleged to be a trafficker was arrested.
The persons rescued claimed that the woman promised them to get jobs in a fish packaging company in Mumbai.
On the same day, 22 persons were rescued from Baksa by the police while they were allegedly being taken to Gujarat. Two persons were arrested in connection with this case.
The police said that among the rescued people 15 were men, seven women, and two were minors.
