IAF to Acquire 114 Fighter Jets, around 100 aircraft to be built at home

Guwahati: The Indian Air Force (IAF) plans to purchase 114 fighter jets with 96 being produced in India and the other 18 being purchased from a foreign vendor selected for the project.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) aims to buy 114 Multirole Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) via the ‘Buy Global and Make in India’ scheme, which allows Indian companies to partner with global vendors.

The payment in Indian currency will aid the suppliers in achieving the project’s above 60% “Make-in-India” content, according to the reports.

Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Saab, MiG, Irkut Corporation, and Dassault Aviation are among the global aircraft manufacturers likely to participate in the tender.

The IAF must rely significantly on these 114 fighter jets to preserve its advantage over Pakistan and China, which are neighbours.

During the Ladakh crisis which began in 2020 the 36 Rafale aircraft purchased under emergency orders greatly aided in preserving an advantage over the Chinese.
