IMD Issues Thunderstorm Alert for Assam; ASDMA Urges Public Caution

Guwahati — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert warning of thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall across several districts in Assam over the next three hours. The affected districts include Barpeta, Darrang, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, and West Karbi Anglong.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), in a public advisory, urged residents in the alert zones to remain indoors and exercise caution. The advisory particularly emphasized staying away from open fields, electrical poles, and large trees during thunderstorm activity.

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh has been witnessing continuous rainfall for the past two days, with visuals emerging from the city today showing drenched streets and overcast skies. According to the IMD forecast, Dibrugarh is likely to experience a generally cloudy sky with intermittent spells of rain or thundershowers through the day.

Authorities have asked citizens to stay updated with the latest weather information and to report any emergencies to local disaster management teams.
