IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya, Red Alert Issued
Guwahati, 6th July: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for Assam and Meghalaya, predicting isolated heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on July 6. Similar weather patterns are expected to persist on July 9 and 10, with both states likely to experience intermittent bouts of intense rainfall.
According to the IMD’s monthly outlook, July is anticipated to witness above-normal rainfall across the country. While most regions are poised to receive normal to above-normal rainfall, northeast India, including parts of Assam, along with specific areas in northwest, east, and southeast peninsular India, may encounter below-normal rainfall.
The Monsoon Mission Climate Forecast System has also indicated the potential emergence of La Nina conditions later in the monsoon season, which could further influence weather patterns.
In response to the IMD’s Red Alert, authorities in Assam and Meghalaya are gearing up for adverse weather conditions, preparing measures to mitigate potential risks associated with heavy rainfall.
