Internally Displaced People Rally in Imphal for Resettlement Amid Manipur Assembly Session
Northeast Desk, 1st August: Internally displaced people organized a mass rally in Imphal, demanding resettlement in their original places amid the ongoing Manipur Legislative Assembly session. The protest began at Akampat Relief Camp but was intercepted by security forces as the demonstrators aimed to march to the Chief Minister’s residence.
Police halted the protesters at the gate of Ideal Girl College, Akampat, using tear gas to disperse the crowd. The protesters are calling on the government to resettle them during the current assembly session, remove Assam Rifles, and implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Several protesters, including a journalist, sustained injuries during the confrontation. This is a developing story, with further updates expected as the situation evolves.
