IPL 2022: MS Dhoni stepped down CSK Captaincy

Guwahati: Ahead of two days of the Indian Premier League 2022 MS Dhoni has stepped down as captain of Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja.

CSK have confirmed that MS Dhoni will continue to represent the team this “season and beyond.”

Chennai Super Kings, the defending IPL champions, will play the season opener against 2021 runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 in Mumbai.

MS Dhoni is India’s most famous captain. In the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy, he led India to victory. Dhoni has been synonymous with the Super Kings in the IPL, having led them to four titles. MS Dhoni faced criticism after a bad season in 2020 before coming back to win the IPL in 2021.

MS Dhoni abruptly announced his retirement from Test cricket in the middle of a series in Australia in 2014. Dhoni announced his decision to retire as India’s shorter-format captain in January 2017, and he will do so until August 2020.

Despite his poor batting form, Chennai Super Kings have persevered with MS Dhoni. He continues to be a sharp wicketkeeper and his leadership is still high quality. Before the IPL auctions in 2022, Dhoni was the second CSK player to be retained after Ravindra Jadeja.

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday confirmed that more than 25 percent of crowd capacity will be allowed in the stadiums for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, which is set to begin in Mumbai on Saturday, will witness 25 per cent crowd attendance in stadiums, the organisers said on Wednesday.
