Israel-Hezbollah Conflict Escalates: Airstrikes in Lebanon Kill 492 Amid Intensified Rocket Attacks
International Desk, 24th September: The Israel-Hezbollah conflict reached its deadliest point in years on Monday, with Israeli airstrikes killing 492 people in Lebanon, including women and children, in the highest death toll since the 2006 war. The strikes targeted Hezbollah strongholds in response to the militant group’s overnight rocket barrage, which launched nearly 200 rockets at northern Israeli cities like Haifa and Nazareth. While most rockets were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system, no major casualties were reported on the Israeli side.
The escalating violence has sparked fears of a full-scale war, as international calls for restraint grow. In southern Lebanon, tens of thousands of civilians fled to Beirut to escape the bombardment, with Israel hitting 1,600 Hezbollah targets in one of its most aggressive military campaigns in the past year. Lebanon’s health ministry reported 1,645 injured, marking Monday as the deadliest day for the country since its civil war ended in 1990.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi hinted at further military action, while the IDF released evidence of Hezbollah’s use of civilian areas for military purposes, underscoring the challenges ahead as the conflict intensifies.
