Jairam Ramesh Slams Modi Government Over Foreign Policy, Refutes Rijiju’s Claim on Delegation Talks

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and MP Jairam Ramesh has launched a scathing attack on the Modi-led government’s foreign policy, calling it a complete failure and accusing it of prioritising domestic political narratives over diplomatic continuity.

Speaking to the media in Delhi, Ramesh said, “Our foreign policy has completely failed. Foreign policy is not just about making claims of being a ‘Vishwaguru’. There was a continuity in foreign policy over the last 60-70 years, but that has been broken by the Modi government.”

He alleged that internal politics has now become a tool in India’s diplomatic strategy. “What all did the Prime Minister not say about Congress and Congress leaders in Australia, Germany, South Korea, China, Qatar, London, and America. Wherever he went in the last 11 years, he defamed Congress. Where is the foreign policy? If it was truly strong, there would have been no need to send this delegation,” Ramesh added, referring to the recent all-party foreign visit initiative.

On the claim made by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju that Congress was not responsive in the matter of the foreign delegation, Ramesh called it false. “That’s a lie. He had a conversation with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on May 16. Immediately after that, a formal letter was sent by Rahul Gandhi to Rijiju, suggesting four names from the Congress party,” he clarified.

Ramesh concluded by stating that the Congress does not wish to politicise the matter further, despite what he termed as deliberate misrepresentation by the government.
