Jay Shah Reappointed as Chairman of Asian Cricket Council for Third Consecutive Term

Sports Desk, 31st January: In a significant development, Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has secured his position as the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for the third consecutive term.

The reappointment of Shah puts an end to speculations surrounding his potential resignation to vie for the position of ICC chief. The 35-year-old, who is also the son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, received unanimous support from all ACC members after his extension was proposed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva.

Shah initially assumed the role of ACC President in January 2021, succeeding Nazmul Hassan of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Notably, he has become the youngest administrator to secure reappointment as ACC President. Under Shah’s leadership, the ACC has witnessed significant strides in the promotion and development of cricket across Asia.

During his tenure, the ACC, led by Shah, achieved successful organization of the Asia Cup in both T20 (2022) and ODI (2023) formats. These events showcased Asia’s prowess in hosting major cricket tournaments and highlighted the ACC’s dedication to advancing the sport in the region.
