Rahul Gandhi’s Car Attacked During Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Bengal; Congress Leader Unharmed
National Desk, 31st January: During the Bengal leg of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s car was allegedly attacked, resulting in a shattered rear windowpane. The incident occurred as the yatra entered Malda district from Bihar’s Katihar. Although Gandhi remained unharmed, the rear windshield was damaged, reportedly due to stone pelting. After the attack, Gandhi examined the damaged vehicle and continued the roadshow, sitting on the roof and waving at crowds. Congress leaders expressed resilience, emphasizing that the incident wouldn’t deter the yatra. Security was heightened as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also scheduled a yatra in the same districts.
The attack on Rahul Gandhi’s car took place during the Bengal leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, specifically in Malda district. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury reported that the rear windowpane was shattered, allegedly due to stone pelting. Gandhi, though unharmed, examined the damaged windshield, highlighting the incident’s seriousness. Congress leaders affirmed the yatra’s continuity, emphasizing its resilience and dismissing attempts to disrupt it.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury acknowledged the incident, suggesting that a stone might have been thrown amid the crowd, calling for a thorough police investigation. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh asserted that the attack wouldn’t deter the yatra, expressing the resolve of the INDIA alliance. The incident’s gravity was recognized, underscoring the potential risks when security is overlooked.
Coinciding with Rahul Gandhi’s yatra, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had scheduled her ‘Jonosanjog Yatra.’ Security measures were heightened in the two districts due to the concurrent political activities. Despite the incident, both Congress and Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress affirmed their commitment to their respective yatras.
Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, resuming from Bihar’s Katihar district, re-entered Bengal through Malda. The yatra is set to reach Murshidabad on February 1, continuing its journey before exiting the state the next day. The incident adds a layer of political dynamics to the ongoing activities, as both Congress and TMC assert their political narratives amid the upcoming elections.
