Largest Cancer Facility In South Asia to Come Up in Assam’s Amingaon
Guwahati: Assam to set up a top-notch Cancer research facility in Amingaon under Kamrup district for which the land parcel has already been designated
The institution has been given the name as South Asia Cancer Research Centre and is most likely the largest cancer research facility in South Asia.
The department of medical education and research conducted a session in Guwahati on March 10 to go over the specifics of the project. Experts from all throughout the nation discussed the project’s operational architecture and plan there.
Dr. D. Nori a well-known expert who has collaborated closely with Memorial Sloan Kettering, the top centre for cancer research in the United States took part in the conversation in person.
Scientists and faculty from AllMS, SCl, BBCI, llT Guwahati, GMCH and ACCF hospitals were invited to critically evaluate the presentations made by the Indian branch of the US-based consulting firm M/S Iqvia Lnc which has been tasked with the preparation of the project report and a roadmap to take the project towards execution.
“There would be a progression of consultative conversations which would facilitate unequivocally characterize the venture configuration,” state wellbeing chief Dr Siddharth Singh expressed talking on the event.
“With an attached paediatric oncology hospital for child-related cancer treatment, this would be one of the best cancer research centers. In addition, a paediatric cardiology wing has been planned as part of the project to make use of the high-quality infrastructure for both pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery,” Singh stated.
Top worldwide talent could be drawn to Assam’s cutting-edge cancer research centre, which has 17 cancer treatment facilities and a research facility to participate in locally pertinent oncology research.
Due to the similar behaviours of the area, this hub has the potential to offer evidence for improved cancer control and management, not just for Assam but also for adjacent states and countries.
This facility will help Assam establish itself as the leading state of the northeastern states on the map of major research centres. It will develop concerted effort for the Upper East and concurrently as well as for the neighbouring countries.
It was also disclosed that alternatives for setting up a proton therapy centre within this facility were being discussed.
Proton therapy is a high-precision radiation therapy used to treat challenging tumours. There is only one privately owned proton centre operating in the nation right now.
