Legendary singer-composer Bappi Lahiri passes away at 69

Guwahati: Legendary singer and musician Bappi Lahiri breathed his last at the age of 69 in Mumbai’s CitiCare Hospital in Juhu.

He’d been in the hospital for a month, receiving treatment for a variety of ailments.

He was suffering from a variety of ailments. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight.

Bappi Lahiri, a pioneer of disco in Bollywood in the 1980s and 1990s composed super hit soundtracks for films such as Disco Dancer, Dance Dance, Chalte Chalte, and Namak Halaal making him one of the most prominent characters in Indian film music. In the field of Bengali cinema, he also had a long list of soundtrack credits. He performed several of his own tunes, including Disco Dancer’s Koi Yaha Naache Naache and Saheb’s Pyar Bina Chain Kaha. With his distinctive gold chains and sunglasses, Bappi da, as he was affectionately known, cut a dazzling figure.

Lahiri, whose real name is Alokesh also had a brief political career, joining the BJP in 2014. He was defeated by a Trinamool candidate in the Lok Sabha election that year.

Lahiri’s last Bollywood song was Bhankas for the 2020 filmBaaghi 3. He is survived by his son Bappa and daughter Rema.

Lahiri was noted for wearing heavy gold chains and jewellery, in addition to his wonderful music. He disclosed why he used to wear so much gold in an earlier interview. Elvis Presley, the late songwriter, and singer were considered to have had a big effect on him. During his concert, Elvis Presley donned a gold chain. Bappi da had told in that interview that after seeing Elvis Presley, “I used to think that when I become a successful person, I will create my own image. Impressed by Pressley, I wear gold and it is very lucky for me.”
