Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 94-year-old woman casts vote in Outer Manipur’s Ukhrul

Northeast Desk, 26th April: Today marks the commencement of voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 across 13 states and union territories of India. Polling began at 7 am on Friday, April 26, encompassing a total of 88 parliamentary constituencies, including five constituencies in Assam.

One heartening moment captured the essence of democracy as a 94-year-old woman from Outer Manipur’s Ukhrul arrived at the polling station early in the morning to cast her vote, symbolizing the democratic ethos. Concurrently, polling is underway for 13 assembly segments under the Outer Manipur seat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media platform X to urge constituents voting today to participate in record numbers, emphasizing the significance of a high voter turnout in strengthening democracy. He especially encouraged young and women voters to exercise their democratic right diligently.

In Assam, where 9,133 polling stations have been set up across five constituencies for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls, Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel affirmed that all necessary arrangements have been meticulously put in place. Goel disclosed in a press conference held in Guwahati that a total of 77,09,276 voters are expected to cast their ballots in today’s polls across the established polling stations.
