Lord Jagannath won’t forgive us if we allow Rath Yatra this year, says Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered to hold the historic Puri Rath Yatra this year. It was scheduled to start from June 23 but a bench of Chief Justice S.A Bobde and Justices Dinesh Maheswari & A.S Bopanna said that for public health and looking at the safety of citizens this year’s Rath Yatra will not be allowed due the ongoing pandemic.
Regarding the Rath Yatra the Chief Justice said ” Lord Jagannath won’t forgive us if we allow this year’s Rath Yatra to go on’ because if the event happens then huge gathering in Puri might become a super spreader of COVID. The board also told Odisha government not to hold any yatra or pilgrimage procession in the state to avoid the spread of COVID.
A PIL was filed by an Odisha based NGO seeking cancellation or postponement of this year’s Rath Yatra and hence reviewing the PIL the Supreme Court ordered to cancel the iconic Puri Rath Yatra.
