Lt. Gen. Rana P Kalita Takes Charge as GOC in Chief in Kolkata
Guwahati: Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita takes charges as General Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Command at Fort Lewis in Kolkata.
Kalita is the first Assamese Army commander and the second from the northeast to be named GOC. He is from Rangiya, Assam, and has received the ‘Sena Medal’ and the ‘Vishisht Seva Medal’ for his distinguished service.
In 2018, he was given the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for commanding the 19th infantry division near the Line of Control in Baramulla.
Director-General of Police, Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, congratulated Kalita for his achievement.
He wrote, “My heartfelt congratulation and best wishes to Lt. Gen. Rana P. Kalita on taking over as General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC in C), Eastern Command, Fort Williams, Kolkata. A first for any Assamese or a North-Easterner.We are very proud of your achievement and wish for many such milestones in your career ahead.”
