Lumding Reserve Forest: Eviction drive against encroachers

Guwahati: At least 1000 officials along with CRPF personnel have been deployed to conduct an eviction drive against encroachers at the Lumding Reserve Forest area in Assam’s Hojai district on Monday.

The eviction drive is underway and will continue till Tuesday.

As directed by the Gauhati High Court, the eviction conducted in the Lumding Reserve Forest area by the state government is to clear the encroachment in a phased manner.

According to reports, nearly 99 percent of the families have left after they were counseled by the district administration to leave the area.

However, elephants and JCBs are being deployed for the eviction drive.

It may be mentioned that the forest is an area of 22,403 hectares of land from which 500 hectares of the area will be evicted first.
