Major Fraud In the Name Of PMUY Scheme In Assam’s Amuguri
Guwahati: A significant fraud involving the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was unearthed in Amguri of Assam, reports stated on Thursday.
According to reports, a gas distribution company has been charged for serving as middlemen and extorting money from trusting individuals under the guise of the Union government’s flagship programme to provide LPG connections to women living below the poverty line.
Many gullible families living in the Borbam Tea Estate area in Amguri, in the Sivasagar district of Assam were allegedly robbed by the criminals of their hard-earned money. In the name of the PMUY scheme, a scam was employed to defraud these families of Rs 1,100.
Meanwhile, it has come to light that a regional distributor by the name of “M/S Jitu HP Gas” was in charge of providing the LPG cylinder hookups. The distributor is alleged to have illegally taken money from poor families.
According to reports, the gas distribution business gave more than 500 LPG cylinder connections to the local underprivileged families and then illegally collected money from each of those 500 connections.
Moreover, the company has been charged with selling low-quality burners along with the connections which could endanger life.
