Majuli By-polls: Counting of Votes Underway
Guwahati: Counting of ballots in by-elections for the 99 Majuli (ST) seat began at 8 am on Thursday.
Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer, Nitin Khade, met with the DEO of Majuli to discuss Counting arrangements.
He ordered that the Commission’s directions be followed to the letter. He further stated that each counting hall must ensure that COVID requirements are followed.
However, the concerned DEO has put in place comprehensive plans for a smooth and secure counting process in Majuli LAC.
Foolproof security measures have been implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of the counting procedure. In the counting centre, three layers of protection are in place.
The Commission has designated RO and AROs for the purposes of counting.
The result of every round will be available at the ECI website https://results.eci.gov.in.
After former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal resigned from the legislature, a by-election was called for the constituency.
Bhuban Gam of the ruling BJP, Chittaranjan Basumatary of the Assam Jatiya Parishad, and Bhaity Richong of the SUCI(C) are all running in the by-election.
In the March 7 by-election, a moderate turnout of around 65 percent was observed.
In the recent assembly elections in Majuli, however, a high voter turnout of 79.31% was observed.
