Manipur: Bangram Lamnio Secures Gold for SAI STC Naharlagun at All India Inter-SAI Karate Tournament
Northeast Desk, 9th July: In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Bangram Lamnio, representing SAI STC Naharlagun, clinched the gold medal in the Senior Male -67 kg category at the All India Inter-SAI Karate Tournament held from July 6 to July 8 at Khuman Lampak. Lamnio’s victory not only highlighted his individual prowess but also contributed significantly to SAI STC Naharlagun’s overall triumph, where the team secured an impressive total of 35 medals.
SAI STC Naharlagun emerged as the leading team in the tournament, securing 20 gold, 9 silver, and 5 bronze medals. Host team STC Imphal followed closely in second place with 11 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze medals, while STC Shillong claimed the third spot with 5 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze medals. STC Jabalpur secured fourth place with 5 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
The final day of the championship witnessed intense bouts across various categories. STC Imphal secured two gold medals, while STC Jabalpur and SAI STC Naharlagun each added a gold medal to their tally.
In the senior boys’ -67 kg category, Bangram Lamnio triumphed by defeating his teammate Devansh KR Sharma in an impressive final. Albert Jyrwa of STC Shillong secured the bronze medal in this category. Meanwhile, in the junior girls’ -59 kg category, Kh Madhusmita of STC Imphal claimed gold by defeating Sonia Londa from SAI STC Naharlagun, with Daphilahun of STC Meghalaya securing the bronze.
The tournament concluded with a formal ceremony graced by esteemed guests, including Padmashree awardee and Olympian N Kunjarani, Commandant of Group Centre, CRPF Langjing, and other dignitaries from SAI and the Manipur Amateur Karate-Do Association. The event not only celebrated the achievements of the participants but also underscored the importance of sportsmanship and dedication in karate.
