Manipur BJP President Calls for Immediate Release of Family Allegedly Abducted by Militants in Jiribam

Imphal: In a press statement on Thursday, Manipur BJP President Sharda Devi urged the swift release of three women and three children reportedly abducted by militants in the Jiribam district.

Describing the incident as “unfortunate,” she appealed to the armed groups for the family’s safe return, stressing the importance of humanitarian consideration in this crisis.

“We demand the immediate release of the six abducted family members, unharmed and without delay. This is an appeal from the BJP, on humanitarian grounds,” Sharda Devi stated during a briefing at the BJP office.

The abduction has intensified public outcry, with civil society organisations across Manipur stepping up pressure on the government to address the state’s escalating security issues. On November 13, representatives from thirteen prominent groups issued a seven-day ultimatum, warning that they would withdraw support from national political parties and initiate mass protests if their demands for improved security measures were not met.

The groups submitted a detailed memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, listing six urgent demands aimed at restoring peace and stability. The ultimatum underscores growing frustration among Manipur’s residents, who feel national political parties are neglecting the state’s welfare and security.

Manipur continues to grapple with ethnic conflicts, unchecked militant activities, and a deteriorating law and order situation, further escalating local tensions and driving widespread demand for decisive government action.
