Tripura Congress Urges State Government to Strengthen Child Protection Measures
Agartala: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Ashish Kumar Saha voiced strong concerns on Thursday over the current state government’s alleged neglect of child welfare.
He urged officials to prioritize the safety, health, and education of children, emphasizing the need for swift action against rising child-related crimes.
While commemorating the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, which is also celebrated as Children’s Day across India, Saha highlighted the Congress party’s dedication to Nehru’s legacy of supporting children’s welfare. The PCC marked the occasion with a wreath-laying ceremony, followed by a painting and dance competition for children.
“Pandit Nehru’s commitment to children’s well-being was unwavering,” Saha stated. “He envisioned a future where children could thrive in a safe and nurturing environment. Today, however, we see increasing cases of violence against children, including rape and assault, which is alarming.”
Saha stressed that the Pradesh Congress Committee has consistently raised child protection concerns with the state government, but actions to address these issues have been insufficient. He highlighted the urgent need to tackle child labor, improve health and education, and ensure that crimes against children are prevented.
“The administration has the means to direct resources and policies toward these issues, but the present government appears indifferent,” Saha said, appealing for proactive measures to ensure children’s safety and development.
