Manipur: CM N Biren Singh Submits Resignation To Governor
Guwahati: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has tendered his resignation to Governor La Ganeshan on Friday, a day after the BJP won a landslide victory in the assembly elections.
The BJP has secured 32 seats in the 60-member house.
The governor announced on Twitter that Singh has resigned as chief minister and will serve as caretaker chief minister till a permanent arrangement is formed.
The opposition Congress was reduced to only five seats in the assembly poll results announced on Thursday, down from its single-largest party status in the 2017 elections.
As per Election Commission, the Janata Dal (United), which had not won a seat in the previous elections, and the National People’s Party (NPP) both won six seats, while the Naga People’s Front got five.
