Manipur Congress Party Boycotts Assembly Sessions Over Rejection of Resolution on Ongoing Crisis

Northeast Desk, 9th August: On August 9, the Congress party staged a walkout from the Manipur Legislative Assembly, deciding to boycott the remaining sessions of the ongoing 6th session.

Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh, along with fellow MLAs Keisham Meghachandra, Okram Surjakumar, K Ranjit Singh, and Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh, walked out in protest against the Speaker’s rejection of a private members’ resolution. This resolution had called for a comprehensive discussion on the persistent crisis in Manipur, which has been ongoing for nearly 15 months.

Ibobi Singh criticized the Speaker for repeatedly rejecting their calls for a thorough debate on the crisis. “Our private member resolutions moved to discuss the present crisis were rejected by the Speaker. Since the beginning of the assembly, we have been urging a detailed discussion on the Manipur crisis. With the Speaker’s rejection of our resolution, there is no point in attending the house, and we are boycotting the session,” said Ibobi Singh.
